FORT MYERS, FL (October 10, 2000) - Mark Davidson has joined the staff of Shell Point Retirement Community as Executive Chef, according to Shell Point's Director of Hospitality Services, Al Slickers. Chef Davidson will operate from the Mahogany Room, a new fine dining establishment located in The Woodlands at Shell Point.Chef Davidson, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, has extensive experience in the hospitality industry. He has served as chef and kitchen supervisor for numerous hotels and country clubs in Florida, Virginia, Wisconsin, Texas, and Jamaica since 1980. Most recently, he was Executive Chef for Heritage Palms Country Club in Fort Myers, for which he also set up the menus and established operational procedures.
"We're always on a mission to make dining at Shell Point the best and most satisfying experience available," said Slickers. "Having someone as highly qualified and talented as Mark for the Mahogany Room instantly gives it prestige and style. People will recognize that style, and they'll want to come back for it."
Slickers' Dining Services department is already well-recognized. On August 11, USA Today featured Shell Point on the front page of its Life section. The article, which was accompanied by a color photograph, described the changing tastes of seniors and showed that fine dining facilities, like those at Shell Point Retirement Community, are becoming increasingly popular with residents and nonresidents alike.
The Mahogany Room follows in this high-quality tradition. An intimate dining space with fine woodwork and picture windows opening up to a waterfront view, the Mahogany Room will feature gourmet dishes, attentive personal service, and an elegant atmosphere. The Mahogany Room, also known as the "M Room," is open to the public.
The Mahogany Room is the culinary centerpiece of The Woodlands, a new retirement community in the Shell Point tradition. The Woodlands features luxurious residences, beautiful natural surroundings, top-of-the-line technology, and friendly personal attention, offering more of the amenities Shell Point has become known for. "It's an exciting atmosphere," said Davidson, "and I'm glad to be a part of it."
Davidson earned professional certification from the American Culinary Federation, the nation's largest professional association of chefs, pastry chefs, and cooks. He has won several awards, including "Chef of the Year" from the Blue Ridge Chef's Association and "Manager of the Quarter" from Wyndham Hotel. His specialty is creating flavorful sauces; however, says Davidson, "I enjoy working in all aspects of food production."
The Mahogany Room is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 4:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. For reservations, please call (239) 454-2054.
